WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS
ASSOCIATION AWARD
April 2020- Present Day
Some exciting news I was a part of! I had the honor of receiving the White House Correspondents’ Association Scholarship along with two other students from Howard University’s Cathy Hughes School of Communications. The award was presented during the WHCA’s annual dinner, which was held in D.C. Journalists from schools all over the country were recognized—nearly two dozen of us—thanks to our work and potential as future journalists.
Big thanks to my professors who nominated me for the scholarship—your support meant the world, and I hope I made you proud. The dinner itself was such an unforgettable and inspiring experience. It definitely fired me up even more to keep chasing the truth and telling important stories that haven’t been heard yet. I’m excited to keep growing and putting out work I can be proud of.
If you're curious, you can catch the full event on www.c-span.org!
On top of that, I was part of an Emmy-winning team! Four of my classmates and I won in the "Serious News" category for our coverage of COVID-19 across different states. Still so wild to say!
Huge thank-you to Professor Jennifer Thomas, who pushed us to do our best during a tough time when everything went virtual. And shoutout to my amazing classmates from the Cathy Hughes School of Communications—couldn't have done it without you. Also, a special congrats to Carly Haynes, my coworker from the University of Maryland and current teammate at CBS19, who also received one of the awards.
Congrats to all the other winners too! Go Howard, and go CBS19 News!

HOWARD UNIVERSITY MEDIA JOURNALISM & FILM COMMUNICATIONS:
2020 GRADUATE AWARD CEREMONY
Due to the novel Coronavirus pandemic spanning across the United States, my senior graduation ceremony was canceled. The Cathy Hughes School of Communications, Media, Film & Journalism Communications Department decided that my class had worked too hard to have finished without any honors or recognition for the work we have done at Howard University.
During the ceremony, I was recognized for my White House Correspondents' Association Scholarship Award and was given the award for HU News Service along with a fellow classmate. We both covered stories in COVID-19 while practicing social distancing and were informed that because of our work a grant was created in order for other students to continue to make engaging and relevant stories regardless of the economy/ climate in the world. My teachers and the whole Cathy Hughes School of Communication have been my home for the past four years. I will never forget the wisdom and support that they have bestowed upon me. Excellence without excuse, always and forever!
